My sister just recently passed away. She had everything in order and looked after. She left a will as well as a letter with instructions regarding her funeral.
In the letter she also left instructions for some of her items to go to certain people. Her letter stated that all her jewelry was to go to her sister (me) with the exception of a few pieces that she gave to her grand daughter and her engagement and wedding rings that she left to her husband (second marriage). He took most of the jewelry and gave me a few items. Is the letter that she left a legal document because she signed and dated it. Can I make him give me the items. Angry Sister. |

Normally you need to have that in the will--not in extra letters.
If the value is great or it is important to you, hire a lawyer to look at both documents and see if legally the letter can be classified as an amendment or addition to the will. There is a chance it could be. |
