Default Estate

Could you please tell me the legal procedure in handling someone’s estate? Does the lawyer contact the beneficiaries of the estate with a Statement showing receipts and disbursements to and from the estate? And isn’t each beneficiary required to sign a Release of the executor indicating they agree with his figures?

The executor has to fully process the estate--there are many articles on the web you can review.

And your local probate court has forms and instructions, guidelines etc. that will also tell you how basically the whole process should be handled...

what has been the problem?

I received a cheque from my older sibling who is the executor of my father's estate. I received no documents, etc from the lawyer who he was handling my father's estate.
I assumed it was a legal procedure to send a statement to all of the beneficiaries of the estate that they agree to these figures, if so, they sign & then the cash is released.
Was I wrong to assume that?

Yes you need to see and approve...or you may object and file in court.
