My mom filed a Living Trust in Los Angeles, California. Her attorney is long retired..probably dead. His practice disolved when he retired many years ago. Mom died. I cannot find her original Living Trust, or even a copy. Is there an agency I can contact to obtain a copy of her trust? I am the executor. P,ease help!

Have a court records search done if it was filed in the county records. You should consult a lawyer first to see where and if it would have been filed.

Also: sometimes people put a copy of their trust in a safe deposit box. If you can find a key to the box, and the bank and box number, you can open it to inventory it and remove trust and will docs. The bank then makes a copy of these and keeps the copies in the box. I think you have to show that you're a successor interest in the accountholder's trust or estate, so you'd have to show the death certificate, and proof that you're her child, I think. The bank I dealt with was so inept at the whole business, that I had to pester them and call higher up the chain of command to get them to follow the law; but that's another story.

Go to the LA COUNTY Public Library or LA COUNTY Court House and do a FREE public records search by name. (Some libraries even have it online). That will give youa document # that you can then pay to get a copy of from the county records. Doesn't take long. Good luck

Gee. Ya think the OP is still lingering here after 3 years still wondering what to do? Read the times stamps before posting answers. Stop re-opening old posts.
