Confused Sibling died (MO), no will, live in gf keeping everything

Friend's brother died. Had no will. His live in gf of about 1 year, was on his checking acct. She drained acct. She will not release his belongings to his family. Can she do this legally? What can / should they do? TY

If the GF was a joint accountholder on the checking account with right of survivorship, she was entitled to the contents just as much as he was.

As for the rest of his belongings, those would need to be sorted out in probate. If the brother died intestate, then the father, mother, and siblings would be entitled to what he has.

Your friend and their family needs to hire a good probate attorney to sort this out.
