WHAT TO DO ABOUT HATTIE
Almost a year ago, my mother went into the hospital at age 80, for
surgery something went wrong and has left her in a rehab.center/nursing home in an incapacitated state. She apparently signed over her medical rights to 2 friends of hers before entering the hospital that allowed them to make legal decisions before I could arrive; upon arrival I discovered this and was informed that her daughter had signed the paperwork; later her male friend informed me that he had power of attorney over her financial affairs, granted he has been managing her affairs seemingly, but it is not the most sufficient manner or in some cases the way me and my mother discussed what she would want in the past. I am her only child by legal adoption; she has two other neices and no other immediate family. The eldest neice lives in the same town and I live in florida, they are in Va. What steps should I take to see if \"power of attorney\" over my mother\'s affairs has been given to her friend before she became ill; he say\'s that he has \'a paper\', is there some legal way that I can obtain this? |

You can demand he show you etc., and if you feel something is not correct you may file in court and have the entire situation examined--or threaten to do so anyway.
