Confused Trust questions

My husband and I are in CA for his mother's funeral. We live in another state a good distance from here and have not been able to oversee most of her care in the last few months of her life. She was diagnosed with cancer in Feb of this year and passed last week. There are three sons.

She supposedly established a trust and named the youngest son the executor. She also signed, again supposedly, the title to the house to him. We have asked to see copies of these documents on 6 occasions and still are not able to view them.

We believe she was coerced into signing over the house(this was done a few weeks before her death) and naming the youngest son as the executor. He does not work and can't hold a job. He went to the bank today to remove the money from her account and the bank has frozen the account, allowing only enough money to pay the funeral expenses. Shouldn't that have been a part of the trust? The bank is saying it has to go through probate. That indicates there is no trust, but a will, right?

He is also not allowing anyone access to the safe deposit box at the bank.

We have no idea what kind of assets there are and why he won't allow us access. We suppose he is hiding something.

What can we do legally to intervene? The house is worth a great deal of money and we would like to at least see what is there.

Thank you in advance.

Default Re: Trust questions

Yes something seems very odd; if you cannot all papers asap, you should have counsel investigate it thoroughly or even subpoena documents if need be.
