Angry In Shock Regarding a Will - Left Out

My older brother died recently. His will states that everything goes to me, his only surviving relative. However, as I went to his banks to collect the money I thought was mine, I was shocked to discover he had listed his favorite charities (Salvation Army, The American Red Cross, and Feed the Children) as beneficiaries on all his accounts. My attorney told me this was legal and binding and the only way I could contest it was to prove him incompetent, which is impossible, as he was not.

I am devastated! I inherited his house and car and that is ALL. My attorney also also told me the banks only honor the beneficiary listed as Payable on Death on accounts, as they override wills. Do I have any options at all in getting this money? I am elderly and sure could use it. Thank you!

No, you do not have any options. It's astounding you're "devastated" at this news but no at your brother's death.

He had no obligation whatsoever to leave you anything, let alone "only" his home and vehicle. Sell them and get some money out of them if you're that ungrateful. You have an enormous sense of entitlement. Someone else should leave you all their money simply because they have some to leave? Get real.

He may have left you "everything" in his Will, but he obviously left to his favorite charities the money in his bank accounts. One would think you would be proud of him for doing something so generous to more needy causes than his greedy sibling, and to honor his memory by accepting his wishes.

It is correct that whoever is listed on Payable Upon Death is where this money is going to.

You're only devastated that he did not leave you all his money. You're not devastated that he died? What a piece of work you are.

Exclamation Re: In Shock Regarding a Will - Left Out

You've GOT to be kidding me! I agree with the above comment. I am glad your brother didn't leave you his money and wish he hadn't left you his house and car. How greedy and uncaring can you get?? Gez, have you no compassion for your brother? Maybe he knew how you felt about him and left his money to charity instead of you. Ever think of that? I wonder what the worth of "only" his house and car is. Not too bad, if you ask me. He didn't even have to leave you that, you ungrateful thing you! Shame on you.
