Exclamation Dead Father's Estate--Untrusted deceased executor

I am currently 18 years old and I live in Illinois. My father passed away when I was in 8th grade. He hadn't worked for years because he had a horrible injury through work, he was electricuted and actually died for 5 minutes, so he received a hefty settlement. My grandmother, his mother, took him to put money away because she was afraid he waste a lot of it if he could get to it whenever he wanted. She allowed him a certain amount of money every month and left the rest to build and what not. His estate was supposed to be passed onto me and my sister, but for some reason, we have seen no money? His estate said supposedly it was only 10,000 ( which I had gotten a paper before stating it was going to be mine), but instead the executor of the estate at the time spent it all on funeral costs, and other random things, leaving only 100 dollars left. The executor was my grandmother and she has since passed. I was never close with my fathers family and my Mother insists there must be money somewhere that my Grandmother told noone about. How do I go about finding this money, and if I were to hire a lawyer to do it, how much would that cost? A rough estimate. I greatly appreciate your help.

You could check with his and her former lawyer, tax person etc. to see what they think or what they may say...also check the probate documents filed with the court. WLD could do an exhaustive search and the fee they would charge would likely be around 800 to 1500 dollars.
