Default Grandmothers will left everything to son

My grandmothers will left everything to her son "to have and to hold until his death". Does this mean he is to leave it as it is and not sell it? He wants to sell and split with his sisters but we are confused by this statement.
Any advice is appreciated.

You need to have a lawyer review the entire document.

It may be he has life estate only and cannot sell.
