Default Contesting a Texas will. Could it be that brother is playing a game?

My girl friend's father recently passed away. He lives in Texas, she lives in Indiana.

The will hasn't been read yet but her brother is telling her she will not receive anything.

Her father was not independently wealthy but.....um.....Well off.

He owned a small AM radio station that was promised to her brother several years ago. At the same time she (my gf) was promised the house and several other items. This was witnessed by her ex husband, a Priest, and several other people.

She has lived very poorly the last few years, doing without lots of needs, not wants. While I wish her father had never passed (even though they were not really close lately) I hate to see her suffer even more. She is feeling that she did something wrong, that she is a bad person, or a bad daughter, for not being included.

Like I said, the will has not been read yet. It could be that her brother is playing a game with her.

I'm just curious if there is anything she could possibly do.

Thanks in advance,
M
