Default Property Willed to my brother & I

My elderly Brother in Florida is receiving a Government Assistance check every month and the amount was recently reduced, due to $3000 additional income he had received from a 440 acre Kansas Farm that we inherited from our Father (the Government Assistance people spotted the associated IRS Form 1099 and they will see a final $9000 payment next year). My Brother also recently advised me that he has seven thousand dollars of Medical bills that he’s not able to pay. As my Brother does not expect to receive any more Farm income, he desperately wants to hang on to his only other source of income, the Government Assistance check.

So my question is, why doesn’t the Government tell my Brother to sell his portion of the Farm, so they won’t have to provide assistance until that money runs out? Can we expect the Government or Medical Facility to come after my Brother’s share of the 440 acre Farm that we inherited? If so, how would this affect my share of the Farm? Note: Please be advised that our inherited Farm has not been divided and I do not want to sell my share.

Thanks in advance for your extra efforts to help my Family out!

They could in time put a lien on the property with respect to his share.

May be a good idea to have a financial planner or lawyer briefly review the details.
