Death certificates

Should I die on holiday in Spain is it necessary of just desirable to register the death with the British Counsel? I understand that to do so costs an additional 122 euros.
I have heard of an ‘International Death Certificate’ but cannot find where these are obtained.

Are Spanish Death Certificates acceptable by banks etc for the purpose of probate?

My father died recently in Torrevieja,Spain.His was an international death certificate.My step-mum recieved it from the funeral director,that made the arrangements.
