Confused Beneficiaries and the law

My ex-husband died in Februray of this year and three days ago his present wife called to let me know I had received a document from AIG listing me as beneficiary to a policy he had. She offered to mail it to me with a copy of the death certificate, to which I agreed. Then on Monday, the 31st of March, she called me to say her lawyer told her not to mail it to me as I was not entitled to the money. Is this true?
