trespassing sentence appeal

Our son was charged with trespassing and went to court. The judge sentenced him to 4 weekends. Our son then started asking the judge questions and after becoming upset, the judge then sentenced him to a year. What grounds do we have for an appeal of the sentence? Thank you

The judge's decision is not final until the hearing ends so it will not be easy to appeal just for that.

But what is the status now--is he really going to jail for a year or was it suspended?

There was a substitute judge that day. The Clerk of Court felt his ruling was not justified, so after the weekend, she went to the regular judge and asked him to return the original sentence - year suspended with 4 Saturday work days. Since our son had already spent 4 days in jail waiting for an appeal, the judge suspended the year and released him. We thank a most-compassionate clerk and judge.
