I have a relative who is presently incarcerated. He has served felony time for vop and currently serving time for a misdemeanor for possession. We are trying to process a time cut for him. The total time he\'s been there is 8 months, when from the beginning, his lawyer stated that he only had to serve 7 months for the consecutive charges. Should we hire an attorney and if so, what is the normal rate and level of guarantee?

It is much better to have lawyers resolve this kind of issue. Have him review the file for an hour or two and then tell what he can do and quote you a flat fee. Or he should opine in writing why nothing can be done or what the obstacle is etc.
