Default domestic violence... charged with agrivated assault and preventing a crime report

I was in a relationship that turned abusive. I'm not the one to put up with it, I gave him a few chances and when he couldnt stop I pressed charges and got a ppo. Because I am pregnant they charged him with agrivated assault and preventing a crime report. I live in Michigan, and I'm frustrated because my detective works midnights and doesnt return calls.

My first question is, on the court documents im receiving it states hes being charged with domestic violence. Are they just not listing the actual charges or did they change the charges?

My second question, he plead not guilty. They set a new court date for a jury trial. The police never took pictures (I thought that should be mandatory in a domestic violence case), I however did, and I also kept the shirt he ripped that night. Should I bring these things with me, or do they even care?

My last question is, I heard that because he plead not guilty, if he is now found guilty he gets a mandatory 3 year sentence for the assault, and possibly more time for preventing the police report (which in Michigan is up to 1 year). Is this true? He has no criminal record other than traffic violations that I'm aware of.

Sorry this is so long, thanks for any advice.

Default Re: domestic violence

Call the DA--they may have lessened the charges or changed them; take any evidence you want though the court may not use or allow it.
