Cruelty to a Minor Charge -- Help w/ pleading?

Easter Sunday I was arrested for what was described as,"domestic violence against a minor". I had whipped my child,my mother called OCS and said I ,"threw him around the house and thru a wall". She wasn't even at my home when the incident occurred (as she told police AND OCS) I was arrested. Booked and in jail for 72 hours. Then when I was released,I went and got a psych evaluation done. To which I was proven sane. I also took "voluntary" anger management classes,to show good faith at my being rehabilitated. I had a on going OCS case for a month and a few days. OCS concluded that no abuse had been done. (ALL my children were examined and questioned.) I received paperwork informing me I have a arraignment on June 29th. I have no priors. No traffic court,nothing. I have never been in trouble as a matter of fact. I was informed that if I wanted to talk further about this,then I needed to contact my court appointed attorney. Except I haven't been appointed an attorney. I called the DA and they informed me that if I wanted to know more then what my charge is (which my charge went from domestic violence against a minor to cruelty to a minor) I would have to ask my attorney. So I was wondering what advice could be given as to how I should proceed. I am planning (as of right now) to pled not guilty. Because...I'm not guilty. I was just wondering what your opinion(s) would be towards all of this.

*On a side note. While I was in jail,there were many REPORTED incidents which occurred against me. I was denied drink(s) in jail,even though I was listed as a diabetic w/ epilepsy. I was also locked up for a duration of 30 minutes with six MALE inmates. I was also denied a bath the entire duration. Also the guards refused to give me a sheet and/or blanket during my stay. They also turned the cooling (air conditioning) up while I was in there. I reported each and every incident to the superiors,including each guards name and shift. I dont know if this would interfere with my case whatsoever but I just thought I would add this*

If you are being provided an attorney as opposed to hiring one, then call the public defender's office persistently until you can speak with somebody. Tell them you need to at least know the charges so you can consider your options--and you don't want to do that 5 minutes before the court hearing.

Frankly you may want to hire counsel--this could be serious if not resolved properly.
