Default Video Surveillance on police cars

Can a cop rewind the video from a routine stop in his car? How soon can an attorney get a hold of these?

I requested the video surveillance. The captian of the police department told me it's public, no problem. He said he'll get me a copy made by the next day. The next day, he called me up and said that he can't give me the surveillance video. He said they watched them again. He told me that the video didn't show the driver fleeing. Does the fact that he won't give me the video now throw up a red flag? Maybe something that they overlooked that they don't want me to see?

A Bright Red FLAg. all cops are corrupt and they will band together forever. Insist on the video. its public information unless it is being held for evidence. Go after them.

OK, so the Captain finally called me back about the video. He was sweet as pie to me! He said he can't give me the video b/c it has become evidence in the case. He said he would love to give it to me. What he did for me though, was walked me through the entire video and told me what was on there from start to finish. He said it doesn't show the driver taking off. He said there was a bend in the road and the cop had to catch up to him. I said did he lose sight of the truck? He said I know the cop said in the report he didn't lose sight, but the video we have is in 2 seperate tapings. ??? He proceded to tell me what the PD has to do to aquire the recording. He said I feel bad for you, I wish I could help you out more.
