Confused Can a 9 year sentence get lowered

My son plea bargained and got 9 years for robbery with a firearm. This is his first offense and we are just wondering is it possible to get the sentence lowered. He's already served 1 year. He is housed over 400 miles from home. Any advice will be appreciated.
