Charged with Petit Larceny

Okay so my friend and I were at the mall and we took some rings not real ones just fake ones that were on this spinny thing and put them on and walked out and as we walked out all these security people came up to us and told us to follow them. So we went up to the security room. Basically we both got charged with petit larceny. Im 18 and my friend is 15. My total amount of the rings that I stole came to about $105.00. My friends total amount came to $151.00. I was just wondering because I most likely will have to go to court what I should expect. Like community service, fines, both? and if they do fine me, how much do they usually fine for something like this. I know they the judge looks at your background and keeps that in mind and this is the first time I have ever gotten into any trouble with the police in my whole life. Will this prevent me from getting a job? Im so scared right now.

Make sure you get legal counsel (or at least the public defender) to try to keep this off your record eventually--jail time is not likely if your record is clear now. But having that arrest and/or a conviction on your record could make job-hunting etc. more difficult. Often this could be negotiated down to some kind of court supervision or even be dismissed etc. If it eventually appears it cannot be negotiated down, please let us know...

Okay I have never been in this sorta trouble before in my life, where do you I even begin to start. What should I do to get this possibly negotiated down. Im looking for any advice you can give me. I really dont want this on my record. I have so much I want to do in my future!
