unknown driver

an unknown person driving my car got pulled over and gave wrong name and addy. police came to me and said if i cant tell who drove the car they will give me the ticket tomorrow. they know it wasnt me or my son, but will still fine me. I asked what the person did and what time so i could establish who was driving, but police wont tell me. we have till tomorrow to come up with the name. is this legal? the unknown person got the ticket on the 1st of feb, thats all they would tell us. we are desperate because we honestly dont know

hey, the citation contains the offense name and the vehicles registration owner. If you are the register owner, you are responsible. Since you did not know who drove the car. I am sure the judge would be so curious to know who really drive the car. Unless, it is reported stolen. you will be get off. Otherwise, you may have some explaining to do.
