My sister was driving home from work the other evening and she was at a stop sign and the bus coming down the street opposite her had turned on it's yellow lights when she was proceeding into the intersection and then when she was into the intersection the bus turned it's red lights on and stop arm and and she saw and tried to stop and heard the busdriver blow the horn and she did stop but she had already passed it. She did stop and did not proceed any further until he put his lights off and proceeded downthe street. She was coming towards the bus on the opposite side of the street (hope this makes sense)
We are just wondering what would happen if the bus driver reports it, since she did stop he probably got her lisence plate number. This is state of Missouri, how long does a busdriver have to report a violation? and also If he reported it, will she get a letter in the mail, will a cop come to our home or her work? and what could happen if she's ticketed for this? She is a good driver, has never had any tickets or even pulled over, and she didn't know what to do being in the intersection when it turned red. We dont' know if the busdriver reported it, but if he did any advice on what could happen would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

She should know quite soon if it was reported.
An officer could even come to the house but usually she would get a summons in the mail. |

If your wife would have stopped at the proper position (before the bus), would that have placed her in the intersection? Very dangerous to stop this way (works in her favor especially if the bus was stopped at the stop bar to let off passengers). Once you enter an intersection, you must clear it. Also, you cannot enter an intersection until you are able to clear it. Once your wife entered the intersection, the bus driver should not be allowed to place her in a dangerous situation. If the yellow lights were flashing and the bus was stopped (just prior to turning on the red flashers), she should not have entered the intersection.
A bus driver is not a traffic enforcement officer. They can report you, but the worst you can receive is a letter. It takes a sworn officer to issue a citation. |

My question involves a careless driving ticket from the State of Missouri: My grandson recently received a C&I ticket for passing a school bus on a double line. The road was a two lane state road. No accident was involved, but there was oncoming traffic. The bus driver reported the incident to the principal of the school. The principal called the sheriff's department who sent a deputy to the school to issue the ticket. What sort of fine should he expect for this offense? Should he obtain an attorney?
