I may be guilty of contempt of cop, but is that a crime?

I am in the midst of a legal fight between myself and the state of Ohio. Several weeks ago, a friend had broken down on his motorcycle and called me. I repair bikes in my spare time. He indicated that he wanted to get rid of it, so I bought it. He left it where it broke down, minus the plate, and I showed up with my wife later to pick it up. Based on the symptoms he described, I thought it had a fuel issue. I put a plate on it that admittedly didn't belong, and pushed it to the gas station. As I was fueling it up I noticed an officer eyeballing it pretty hard. I then realized that I didn't have the key so, after talking with my wife we decided to get some breakfast from the adjacent restaurant. I pushed the bike to the eatery, and as I was approaching the door the officer pulls up and begins questioning me, ultimately charging me with driving while suspended.

This occurred on private property. It is my understanding that the officer cannot legally do that, not to mention that the bike was broken and inoperable! I have pled not guilty and gone through the pretrial. It is set for trial in January. I cannot believe it has gone this far. What should I do?
