Default Flashing red light instead of STOP sign, NC

I got pulled over failing to come to complete stop at a stop sign. (it was around 10 mph). Cop marked failing to stop at a flashing red light instead of stop sign. These are 2 options in one line. He asked me though had I seen the stop sign (so probably it's in notes on his copy). I'm getting confirmation from DOT that there's no light at that intersection.
Is there a chance of ticket dismisal based on that mistake? And if that would have helped: If I ask officer if he had seen flashes of the light (since it had been dark already)?

THX for your help.
