Speeding ticket for driving 81 in a 50 zone, and i got a citation for court !!

I went to drop off my aunt at the mall, but i was in a hurry becase i was goint to be late for work, so i was really driving around 80 mph to be honest, my question is what should i do in the court? i' ve never had a ticket before, so do you think i should pled myself guilty at the court to see if the honor gisves a break? what do you thing i should do ? in the State of Florida, driving 30 mph more than the speed limit is a criminal traffic violation, the only thing i have in favor is that i' ve never got an speeding ticket before. i just hope the cop doesn't show up to court !!!

actually the court date is on 09/15/09 just in case...

Does the ticket information give you the option to just send in payment to your State's Treasurer? If so, just pay it and be done with it. There is no way in hell you're going to win or get a reduction. Malls usually have 35 mph speed limits posted around them. If you were going 80 in a 35 mph zone, you are very lucky you were not arrested and put in jail.

Unless there is a life and death situation taking place in any vehicle, there is simply no defensible excuse for going 80, least of all just because one was going to be late for work. I'd rather be late and take my lumps for it than to be guilty of maiming or killing someone.

You can win. You have to pick apart the defenses case and establish a reasonable doubt. Get a lawyer and see if you can get the case dismissed or a decent plea can be had. If you are not satisfied, plea not guilty and take it to trial. Make them prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were speeding.

That means they have to provide good evidence and a witness.

You were of even less help. Read the Original Poster's comment. He/she admits to driving 80 "to be honest". The will be no room for "reasonable doubt". This isn't a criminal trial. "Reasonable doubt" does not factor in traffic stops where a police officer clocks someone going 80 in what is probably a 35mph zone. Add to the mixture the OP admits to that speed and it's a clear cut case. Advising such a person to spend the time and money taking it to trial is absolutely ridiculous. The money alone that it would cost the OP is ten times what the ticket would have been.
