I was issued a speeding ticket with my last name missing on the citation. In the box for "Defendant" only the letter "A" appears. Other information is correct. Is the citation valid?

I'm assuming you signed the ticket? If you did, acknowledged you are the person the officer ticketed.
I highly doubt you'd win your case. Judges more often than not simply side with the officer and ignore such details as clerical errors. And if you signed the ticket, you placed your own name on the ticket. You won't win. Just pay it and get on with your life. |

No, I didn't sign the ticket. The officer simply handed it to me after he outlined the procedures for mail-in pleas.

If you are being honest, and you truly did not sign the ticket, you may want to show up when the court date comes around and ask why you were not required to sign the ticket. I'd be interested to know what the response is. |

Well sure it's probably highly irregular, it probably rarely happens, but it does. Training or not, police officers are only human and do occasionally make mistakes. I think that's what this person is asking, is if this lucky mistake may turn in her favor.
At any rate, you should check to see if you even have to sign the ticket first. It would be bad to go to court and ask about it and then get laughed at because it's not policy. I don't know what state you live in, but it's different everywhere. He may just not have had you sign it because you don't have to. In my state I don't think police have you sign the ticket. I've gotten a few tickets as well as my friends, and I, nor anyone I've seen ticketed, have ever had to sign anything. |
