I got a parking ticket for parking in a handicapped space. I went to the arraignment. I decided to plead not guilty and fight it. Reason being is because I wasn't parked in a handicapped parking space! A court date for trial was scheduled and I missed it. I figured it wasn't worth to get a lawyer to attend for me because the lawyer was going to be more than the actual ticket. I assumed the trial would be conducted without my presence and judgment would be made by default. That has happen a few times to people I know in Philadelphia where I lived. A week later, I received a noticed that there is a warrant for my arrest for contempt of court. There is now a $500 bond. I am in North Carolina and cant report to the police station and post bail nor attend any court date. What to do to handle the situation? Last edited by one_self; Aug 6th, 2009 at 01:15 PM. |

If you fail to take care of the warrant, it will simply set there. If you get stopped by the police for a traffic violation, they may discover the warrant and arrest you and hold you until they are notified by NJ that NJ will or won't extradite you to face the charges.

The only thig on know for sure is what I have experienced. For one Your minor traffic warrent from NJ in another state. New Jersy especially is not good about connecting with other states when it comes to traffic tickets. I don't know who this person is that answered your question previously, but I can tell you with out a shadow of a doubt that they are DEAD WRONG. I have never in my life heard of another state axtraditing ANYONE from form any other state for the purpose of a traffic. It is not cost affective for one, for two it just does't happen. How do i know this because I received two traffic tickets in NJ in 2000 and I never paid them. I have been pulled over multiple times since then and they have never shown up in other states other then NJ. You can trust my word because I have lived it or you can trust some fresh out of college lawyer that knows some book cases. It is up to you.

If you are in NC don't even worry about it. Call the courts in Jersy and pay by credit card over the phone or mail a check. The only way you will be arrested is if you go to NJ and get pulled over or have some sort of contact with the police. I was the person that just commented a moment ago.
