Ran a stop sign and don't want to pay

I recently ran a stop sign going around 1mph on an empty street on a Sunday afternoon in Houston TX. As I was looking to the left to see if anybody was there I saw the officer and, unfortunately he saw me and pulled me over. We quickly exchanged info and the ticket and I asked him "how much?" and he said I would have to call to find out. I did run that stop sign but I just really don't want to pay the fine (I still don't know how much). I wanted to plead not guilty and see if it might be dismissed. Can that bite me in the ass or would I just end up having to pay the same amount? Are there any good tricks to delaying my court date? Can I argue the circumstances and get a reduced fine? Or should I just pay the thing and not mess with it? Thanks in advance for the time and info.

For this type of offense in Texas, your easiest move truly is to just bite the bullet, pay the fine, and move one. You could seek a continuance, but eventually it would have to go to trial. You would most likely lose based on the officer's testimony and the citation. Hope it works out. AJJ
