no tag's Citation

I am student from UK on 2 month holiday in USA baught a used car , insured and licenced it.
I was not told to stick the tags which I have on to the number plate. I was given a citation to appear in court in september but will be back in England in mid August what should I do

I am not sure where you are located but some courts have a walk in available. You may have to wait a while but should be able to see a judge. Now I do believe they will expect you to have asked how to properly display the tag and may hold you responsible. Although the fine should be lite compaired to other due to the fact that you did have it and you are not from around here. Then again it may also be dismissed due to lack of knowledge and there was no intent to decieve.
