I was at company party (in Montreal) one night and decided to take a taxi instead of public transport. Less than one block after getting into the cab we are stopped in some sort of traffic trap and I am given a ticket for not wearing a seat belt in the back of the cab.
I wasn't even aware that you are required to wear a seat belt in the back of a taxi. Usually I do wear a seat belt when I'm in cabs simply for safety, but in this case I never had a chance to put it on. The cabby took off as soon as I got in, even before I had given him the address and we were stopped less than 100 yards from where I got in. My problem is that I just got my learner's permit and the 3 demerit points are a killer. With a learner's in Quebec you can only accumulate 4 points before they suspend your license for 3 months. I have another 4 months to go before I get my full license (with the full 15 points). Any suggestions? Thanks, CG |
