"Traditionally, Christmas trees were not set up until Christmas Eve (December 24th), and were taken down after Twelfth Night (January 6th).
Although it can not be proved, it is thought that the Christmas tree traditions has its roots in pre-Christian Yule traditions. It is known that in the 16th century Bremen (in Germany), a small fir was decorated with fruit, nuts, pretzels and paper flowers and erected in the guild-house. In the following years, the custom spread slowly at first, eventually to Austria, Russia and France. The Christmas tree was introduced to Britain by the German wife of King George III." So now you know. The real reason for this post is to wish all our readers a very Merry and Happy Christmas, if you do not celebrate the season then happy holidays to you from us. Let us hope that you all have a great time, whether celebrating alone or with your families, that all is well with you in the world. And for those who are are grounded more in the physical world we hope that you got the presents you wished for. Last edited by wld_team : 12-29-2007 at 06:22 AM. |
