I know an older gentlemen who is afraid to apply for Social Security
benefits because he neglected to file taxes for a few years back in the late 90\'s and early 2000\'s. He thinks if he applies for Social Security benefits, they will take him to jail for tax evasion. Is this correct? |

No that is not correct--but the issue of back taxes may come up if w2's were submitted and he may lose some benefits.

Hi--we normally do not try to give tax advice on this site; you may check with the IRS directly; or your accountant; or the H & R Block web site for 20 dollars: HR Block Tax Advisor link --
