Default Income Tax: Does Canada and the US share child support information?

Does Canada and the US share child support information?

If a Canadian sends child support to the US and the Canadian wants to declare the child support to get a refund - would the IRS in the US be notified?

I wish to inform you that IRS can come to know about the amount of child support sent from Canada because the amount will be received by a person in its bank account and IRS can come to know about the transaction. The person may have to inform IRS source of income. Further there exists a Convention with Respect to Taxes on Income and Capital in which there can be exchange of information if desired.

Perhaps you should consider asking a professional tax attorney.

Tax information and income information is shared between the US and Canada as well as welfare/support rolls. Child support is not taxable to the parent under IRS code nor deductible by the obligor, however.

The IRS has little interest in the deductions one takes in another country on their tax returns there.
