Default Auto excise tax / Excise bills

if auto excise tax is for the year, how can towns add interest an penalties if not paid before the year is up? I think this is a big scam.

I wish to inform you that auto excise tax is paid within 30 days of issue of the excise bill. If you are late in payment, there is additional fee and interest to be paid on overdue amount. The payment of auto excise tax is related to the date of issue of excise bill and not whether the year is running or not.

Thumbs Up re: Auto excise tax / Excise bills

I live in Indiana. We have some messed up taxes in our state. For example, a average home in the low $100K range can have a property tax of $2500 and up. What's worse is your neighbor can have a similar house and literally pay half as much. I asked our county assessor exactly how the taxes are figured and she couldn't understand it herself.

Excise bills are prepared by the Registry of Motor Vehicles according to the information on the motor vehicle registration. They are sent to city or town assessors who commit them to the local tax collectors for distribution and collection of payment.
