April 15 — is Tax Day
In the United States, today — April 15 — is Tax Day, the deadline date for filing income tax reports. According to the IRS's 1040 form, the average individual spends upwards of 14 hours and $114 preparing his tax return. Businesses spend more: it takes them, on average, 57 hours, costing $447 to prepare their more complicated forms. More returns are now being filed electronically; those earning less than $56,000 a year can file for free using the Internet, and refunds often arrive within 10 days to those who set up a direct deposit payment.
