Can a Non-Profit Change its name/purpose?

Hello there,

I'm looking to begin a nonprofit company. Right now we're under the umbrella of another nonprofit who is supporting us. However, they havent been active for some time and said they would be happy to switch over their purpose and name if it was legal to do so.

This would help alot as it costs so much to get all of the paperwork in order, and this company has already completed the paperwork 4 years ago.

Is this legal? Can we do it? And will it actually save us time and money or is it more trouble then it's worth.

The nonprofit i am begining is to support military families with rehabilitation emotionally, mentally and physically. The nonprofit already created was originally to teach seniors how to oporate technology (IE Computers etc.) but has not been active for quite a few years.

Pleeease some one help! This would make things so much easier, we could begin applying for ore grants right away, etc, etc, etc.

You can merge or integrate into them if that is what you mean.

Or you can just take them over if they agree.

It does help to have counsel assist as there are a few technical issues and rules in that case.
