I could use help on the basics of which form of corporate entity to use. Any ideas about which sources may be a good place to start?

See Starting a business: http://www.ss.ca.gov/business/resources.htm for general background information and http://www.sba.gov/library/pubs/mp-25.pdf

On a start up business go to sba.gov. they have great resources. Depending on the size of the company there are a number of good ideas the best one is a sole proprietership if it is you alone . The cost is low and you do not pay double taxes. Another is an LLC. you have partners involved that share the cost and profits. And the third next best is an S Corporation you should read in detail on sba.gov to decide which one is best for you. I did the same thing.
