Joint bank account in Florida gone bad

Dear Sirs,

I have a friend in Florida whose live-in boyfriend had promised to marry her and to prove his sincerity opened a joint checking account with her name on it for 45,000 dollars. She has since found out revealing information that would not only make it morally impossible to marry this guy but would make it illegal because he already has a wife in Maryland. She has left him but had already taken out 7,000 dollars of the account for various expenses. Is she under any obligation to repay the money. He is initiating legal action and has scared her into thinking that she will lose her possibility of becoming a US Citizen if she goes to court or if she is taken to prison! What options does she have and does this guy have a case????

If her name is on the account she has the right to withdraw it--unless he can prove they made some other agreement.
