I live in ny state. A summons was hand delivered to me by my ex landlord and his friend (ex landlord is a policeman) They had to sign in at the office -(I am a school teacher and the school is locked) Then, they walked to my classroom to deliver the summons for small claims court. Is this legal? I did not think that my ex landlord could hand deliver a summons. He threatened me months ago over my security deposit and seems to be using his position as a police officer to bully me, especially walking into a locked public school and personally delivering this summons. Any advice?
Thanks in advance. |

A party to the suit cannot deliver his own summons normally, but the officer can. They normally cannot go though locked doors or any locked area. That could be traspass, and you might file a complaint with the police dept.
