Default Ex bought me a dog 5 years ago... Do I have to give the dog back?

My ex bought me a dog 5 years ago, we shared the bills but the vet records, registration and bill of sale were under his name.

We separated 2 years ago and shared custody of the dog until 6 months ago. I have taken responsibility of the dog for the last 6 months, the dog is registered to me, I have paid for food, medication, boarding etc. He is now asking for the dog to be returned to him.

Do I legally own the dog now? He was a gift 5 years ago and he hasn't seen or asked for him in 6 months.

I wish to inform you that you need not return the dog. As the dog is registered in your name thus you are owner of dog. Further the dog was gifted to you and thus you have full rights over the dog. Dog is treated like a thing while determining custody of dog. The owner has the exclusive right to have dog and you being owner can have dog.

If the dog is registered in your name, your husband can’t claim it upon the reason that he gifted it to you. Moreover, a gift can’t be reclaimed by the donor.

As a per lover, let me say I am sorry for all you've been through. The dog is yours. He is registered in your name, It is just like a vehicle title. This was a gift, meaning your ex cannot now go back and "undo" what was a present to you. Hope that helps some.
