Insurance Comp. is sueing me help plz

I just recieved a document delivery to my door by an officer saying that i have 20 days to respond, an insurance company is sueing me for a little over six thousand dollars in reference to a car accident i had in year 2004, I was at fault in the accident and did not have insurance at that time, affter the accident the other person the one i recked with and i become friends he is a really nice guy, I contacted him and he said that he never want me to get sued for this and asked me if he can sign any release or what can he do to stop or have this case dismissed.

I forgot to mention that we live in the state of florida, and on the documemts
says, ( the name of the insurance company) on behalf of (the other guy's name) VS ( me) and one more question incase i lose what can happen, i do not have the money to pay can i go to jail for this or what are the posible penaltys?
