Do I have a case or not?....

I just want to know in general if I have a case to sue or not. Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated....

A friend let me keep my stuff at his place bec I had moved away in Nov 07 to start a job and couldnt take everything with me. I had told him originally I was coming in Feb to come get the rest of my stuff, but I couldnt make it then because I couldnt take off of work. So we had kept in contact and spoken on several occasions about me coming to get my stuff and he said it wasnt a problem with me leaving it there and he understood and knew my job didnt allow me to take off very much. So I called not to long ago and said I was coming down next weekend to get my stuff and he said sure, fine and just asked if i was taking everything with me and i said yes. Not more than like an hour later after that conversation I get a call from the gf saying all my stuff had been thrown away. And I was just so confused because he never told me he was throwing anything away and why did he just say it was fine for me to come get my stuff next weekend.

I dont know if they are just trying to keep my stuff or what but I had an expensive laptop, clothes, jewelry, textbooks and what not and I was never told during any of the several conversations we had, that he was throwing anything away until the gf called to say that.

Can people do that?

Yes you do have a case. He cannot dispose of the items without giving you notice of the disposal. Sue in small claims for damages if need be.
