Custom made product is wrong, HELP!
My daughter's wedding is in 2 weeks and the custom made bride's maid dresses arrived having been made in a different color then what we ordered. They were ordered in a pastel lavender, which at the time of ordering the dresses the sales girl at the bridal shop gave my daughter a small sample of the fabric in the color she ordered the dresses in. This was provided so that we could match the wedding decor with the color of the dresses. The dresses were ordered back the end of last year (2006) as they are each made to order by a wholesaler/manufacturer that the bridal shop uses. They arrived a few weeks ago, but in a darker dusty lavender color (more of a fall color) not near the color of the fabric swatch she was shown and given. With the wedding just a few weeks away we do not have time to have the dresses remade in the correct color. All the wedding decorations have pastel lavender incorporated in them not dusty lavender. The flower girl's dress was purchased at a different bridal shop and the sash is pastel lavender to match the bride's maid's dresses and now it does not match. The sash is not available in dusty lavender. My daughter is being very reasonable about this huge mistake with the owner/manager of the bridal shop and has just asked for some type of compensation (a % of a refund) for the dresses not even a complete refund. The owner said she would have to contact the supplier and get back to my daughter. Well, she called my daughter back and said the supplier informed her that they just get bolts of material in different shades of lavender and use whatever bolt they happen to have. They would not refund the bridal shop and thus the bridal shop will not refund my daughter for the dresses or provide any compensation. I am livid and shocked! This is a small bridal shop not a chain store. They have been in business for many years. To stay in business with all the big chain store competitors out there I would think they would go above and beyond in making their customers happy. I cannot believe that they expect a bride to try to coordinate or change her desired and already planned wedding color(s) a few weeks before the wedding because of a mistake either they or their supplier has made. We do not know if the dresses were improperly ordered by an employee or if it actually was a mistake by the supplier, but either way I believe there should be some compensation as they did not produce and provide the product we ordered. This is their business on a daily basis, providing wedding dresses and bridal party gowns. I feel it is a problem this shop has between them and their suppliers and my daughter should not suffer for it no matter whose mistake it was (even with some type of compensation she still is stuck having her bride's maids in a color dress she did not order so she is suffering). I am very proud of my daughter as she has been very gracious about it all and understands mistakes can happen, but I am fuming that this bridal shop is not taking responsibility for their mistake that is affecting one of the most important and special days in my daughter's life. Can I take this any further with the bridal shop manager or owner? If yes, how?
