Default Childs piano lesson contract

I signed my 5 year old son up for piano lessons and did not realise the contract was for a year. After 2 weeks he is unhappy and I want to leave. When I told the school we were leaving I offered to pay the next months tuition as a notice period, but they say I signed a contract and must continue to pay every month whether we attend or not.

Can they hold me to this agreement or how do I get out?

If they misled you and you had no idea it was a year then you can cancel.

You can go to small claims if they object or try to damage your credit rating.

If you are unhappy with services, that is also a reason to cancel.

I disagree with the last poster.

You are an adult, and you signed a contract with the school. It was your responsibility to read over the contract before signing. The fact that you didn't is not the school's problem, it's YOURS.

You should read over the contract now to see what other provisions it includes that you may not be aware of.

As for the fact that your son is not happy, his unhappiness alone isn't a valid reason to break the contract. I suspect that your son just doesn't like taking piano lessons, as is the case with many young children whose parents force the kids to take lessons they just aren't interested in.

Unless the school did something wrong, you have no valid grounds to break the agreement. Pay the school the tuition you agreed to, or try to negotiate some kind of early termination agreement with them if they are willing to do so.

And read your contract next time before you commit to something you're not prepared to follow thru with.
