A judgement was entered against us for a debt, by a family member. It was money given to us and then we were told we told we had to pay it back at a time my husband was so sick he could not work and we were losing our house. The court case was being heard in a state 1,000 miles away from us and we had no way to get there. We had no way or chance of defending this action and the judgement was entered. Is there any way now, of challenging the judgement and hopefully getting it overturned?
Thanks! Caroline |

You can ask the judge to vacate it, ie set it aside but have to argue you were not served etc. You could also file in your own local court for related damages against the person that violated the agreement. They may argue the issue is already litigated but you may be able to get them on another cause of action or related one.
