Question Am I liabel?

Recently, I dated a guy; we had a good relationship until he got physical with me at which point I broke it off with him immediately and want no further contact. As a christmas present, we picked out a diamond ring for me and had it sized. He paid for it on his credit card. The ring was ready for pick up after we had broken up so he went and got it. He tried to return it to the store but they told him that he could not return it. Now he is claiming that he loaned me money to get a ring that he has and that I owe him $ 1600 for a ring that he bought me as a gift. He is calling and harasing me and saying that he is taking me to small claims court because I owe him money for the ring.. Since it was a gift and I do not have it or want it, am I responsible for paying anything, and what should I do?

Default Re: Am I liabel?

If it was a gift there is nothing further that he can do--he will lose in court if the court agrees it was a gift.
