Question Can I reject a new trial date?

I am the plaintiff in a case where I am suing for $2,000.00. My trial date was set for July 2008. The defendant has changed the trial date to March 2009!! I believe the defendant is trying to file bankrupcy so he don't have to pay me. How can I request to have this trial moved back to this year?
