Confused Mr

Salary Review Not Honoured
I received a salary review letter giving a new increased pay rate signed by a
director. Later I was told they had made an error and was given a new lower rate. I stated that I intended holding them to the rate offered and the response in part was as follows:
"You may want to keep in mind the normal contractual rules applicable to any employment relationship (under South African or English law), which determines that a salary increase is not an offer as you are asserting. It is also trite law that is a bona fide administrative error has occurred that such an error may be rectified upon notice and explanation".
Do I have grounds to pursue the original "SALARY REVIEW"?
The term "trite law" is also new to me. Could you perhaps explain it to me?

Default Re: Mr

Unless it is a formal agreed contract for a period of time, then you normally cannot rely on that and they can correct the error.

You of course may quit at any time as well.
