I want to be paid like everyone else!

I have been with a company for under 5 years and was "promoted" to salaried manager over a year ago. Two days after my "promotion" I was told that a mandate from headquarters said that because my workload is smaller, I have to be hourly, but with approved overtime.

Even though my workload is smaller, occasionally, I still handle larger caseloads like some of the other managers in my office. On the flip side, the managers who handly larger caseloads, handle smaller caseloads occasionally as well. The difference is that I'm hourly and they are salaried. We do the same job functions, manage the same people, despite the size of our workloads.

I learned that the pay for my iniatial job profile was miscoded by HR, and that there really should not be any difference in pay methods (salary vs. hourly).

Personnel from headquarters even told the powers that be in my building, that our pay structured should be reevaluated. It still remains the same.

What's the deal? And why can't I be salaried like the others if we do the same job functions?

You can ask for that, and negotiate with them.

Or just take the overtime if any under the current structure.
