non payment of wages; i was a truck driver
i was a truck driver and the owner refused to pay me then while on her truck kept calling police making false statements, my phone was shut off for non payment i had to get a friend to send me a bus ticket to get home, 2000 miles away, i was on foot and could not take all my belongings with me. The owner has been sent by mail and email a demand for payment i then sent a letter to the state and they responded that i may need to reach the federal wage commission, i just sent a letter to them. She owes me about 2000.00 dollars what can i do?

I would like to inform you that usually you can sue your employer in local, county, state justice of the peace, district and small-claims courts where you live.

In some cases the penalties can amount to double or triple the amount the employer wrongfully refused to pay. So supplement your post and I can better answer. |

Assuming that the contract for employment was out of Oregon and some of the work you did, the trips were in Oregon, Oregon has an agency that will make efforts to collect from you and even if the employer has gone out of business, the state maintains a fund to pay unpaid workers.
If you check the link, cms.gov, that will give you the information you need to file a claim against her. You need to do so before filing suit because the state will not step in if suit has been filed. |
